people these days still can't seem to see the difference between geeks and nerds. when i tell someone from the real world "i'm a geek" they tend to just look me up and down like they're thinking "where is she hiding her retainer?". it's quite perplexing seeing how geek culture has had a rise in the last few years while nerd culture (if there is such a thing) has pretty much stayed at the bottom of the barrel slightly above the mass murderer and gimp castes. for those people that think geeks and nerds are the same thing, i would like to set the record straight. i know i'm stereotyping and if you don't like it, fuck you.
Nerds: usually quite smart but it's mostly book smarts, not common knowledge or sense. they do all their work not because they want to, but because they feel they have to. they end up sitting at their desks reading their physics textbook when they have plenty of time to do something else that they would actually enjoy. as soon as they get an assignment, they start on it right away, even if they're given a year to research it then another year to type it up. these are the people in high school that never missed a day, were never late to class and always had all of their homework done. they got the high scores on the tests and were awkward in social situations. the teachers loved them and the jocks hated them and when exams came around, you'd be lucky to see them cos they'd disappear like ghosts into an empty classroom to study during the breaks.
Geeks: also very smart, but more in a smart arse kind of way. while not being a jack of all trades when it comes to school subjects, they know what they like and they know everything there is to know about what they like, mostly so they can argue with other geeks about it and be able to call them a noob at the end of the argument and really mean it. fans of caffeine, rock in one form or another, gaming, computers in general, mi goreng, anime and manga. someone who classifies him or herself as a geek might not like all of those, but quite a few do. if attending uni are probably studying something they actually enjoy and have a real interest in, even if it means it'll be hard getting a job in their chosen field in the future. also, hate being called nerds, but just think it's obvious if they're called geeks. i've lost count of the number of times i've been called a geek as an insult and just replied with 'fucking duh'
so there. now you have no excuse. if you read this and call me a nerd again, i'll have to pown your arse, you fucking nub.
